A Finish – the yellow dress

I find it difficult to be completely satisfied with garment making but I refuse to make a muslin because of the extra time and money; maybe I need to decide which is most important! So this dress is finished, not without issue, though I finally understood how vents work and I learned to make a […]

Finish Along 2016 Q4

It’s a cliche, but this year has flown by. It’s the last quarter of the Finish Along already! I’ve booked to do a craft fair and thinking about booking another, so my list is largely so I have stuff to display and sell, and I need to finish these fast. I have things I want […]

Fancy & Fabulous Skirt

I’ve got a second finish amidst the chaos that is writing book and magazine stuff. Each time I make this skirt pattern I get a bit better at it; this time I am happier with the finish on the zip at the back. As with all the skirts I make, it has pockets- an essential […]

The PennyDog Summer Collection…

I’ve made my dinosaur blouse! I had some issues with the directional print- meaning I had to recut a couple of pieces and despite having masses left over, I didn’t have a piece long enough for the front so once more the creative piecing came into play. Clearly its a dinosaur thing! Still I’m happy […]

WIP Wednesday – dressmaking

When I went to Ottawa last month (almost to the day) I bought another yard of the Lizzy House red dinosaur print from Natural History at Mad About Patchwork. I already had maybe a yard and a half but it wasn’t enough for my shirt pattern and all its yoke-age. I pre-washed it as soon […]

My latest Lane Raglan

I resewed the seams and now my latest Lane Raglan is safe to wash and wear. It’s made from a Charley Harper knit from Birch that I bought from The Village Haberdashery a little while ago. I made it exactly the same size with the same cut down sleeves as my last one.

A zigzag issue – and giveaway winner

While I was out on another continent, my sewing machine went on a little holiday of its own. When sewing knits, it was creating this monstrosity of a stitch… That’s supposed to be a zigzag! It doesn’t do it on woven, its got a stretch needle in and I’ve done everything you get told to do […]

Bodge it (and Badger)

A reference for all of you familiar with early 00’s Children’s TV… I mentioned before that I made these City Gym Shorts (free pattern) shorts but hadn’t shown you them. They’re perfectly wearable (ignoring the seam in the crotch from when I ended up with upside down dinosaurs and no spare fabric), if only I hadn’t […]

A Finish – Round Trip Dress

I finished this dress from my list of many garments a week or so ago, but can show you it now as it’s the second day of Quilt Market, and the fabric it is made from will have been seen by buyers yesterday on the BasicGrey booth as part of the Moda showcase, so I’m not […]

Dressmaking plans

I actually really really hate cutting out fabric for dress patterns, big pieces of ungainly cloth, crawling around on the floor adding seam allowances, Remembering to leave notches where the darts stop and tailor tack the points etc, etc. But I do enjoy watching fabric go from 2D to 3D and enjoy even more when […]
