Before you change any tensions, try the needle and threads you want to use with fabrics similar to the ones you will be using in the “real” piece. The tension often has to be changed depending on the exact threads/needle combination you use. And I find even using a new needle may make a huge difference!
I’m sure the feathers will be lovely on the quilt!
